Whole School Training, Mentoring and Support

This highly successful Whole School Package involves Phil being at your school several times during the first 10 days, providing support and mentoring throughout. There are two ways the Whole School Oracy to Writing Project can be inducted in your school.

1. Whole school Oracy Project includes:

  1. Whole school INSET enabling teachers to understand a new and challenging scheme of work, taking them through an in-depth examination of the theories and techniques of the course through practical experience, discussion and reflection.
  2. The mentoring project: 4 visits to the school over 10 days offering guidance, direction and support together with modeling and observation of lessons and feedback for key teachers.
  3. One to one email and telephone support giving feedback, guidance and encouragement over the 10 day Process.
  4. A twilight meeting for all participating staff for collating of data, feedback and problem solving.
  5. Phil will also hold several whole school/Key stage storytelling assemblies.
  6. Phil will tell stories and carry out Oracy exercises for children in Foundation stage.
  7. Liase with the Head teacher and the school’s Literacy Co-ordinator throughout the Process.
  8. Help with the initial setting up of the ‘Authorship Club’ for staff and children.
  9. Meet with parent groups to encourage a home school link through storytelling. By helping to develop ‘The Home Link Storytelling Initiative’
  10. The whole school will have 12 months free subscription to The Story Emporium website:

2. Cluster option – Discount when two or more schools take up the Process.

This package will include:

  2. The mentoring project: visiting key teachers twice during the 10 days offering guidance, direction and support together with an observation of a lesson and feedback.
  3. One to one email and telephone support giving feedback, guidance and encouragement over the 10 day Process.
  4. A twilight meeting for all participating staff for collating of data, feedback and problem solving.
  5. Liaise with the Head teacher and the school’s Literacy Co-ordinator throughout the Process.
  6. The whole school will have 6 months free subscription to The Story Emporium website.

Free subscription to the website will enable schools to:

  • Download a comprehensive Oracy to Writing Guide book, which helps practitioners to understand how to implement the Process in the school.
  • Download 240 easy to follow lesson plans, together with lesson extensions, activities and handy appendices, especially created for KS1 and KS2 by Phil McDermott.
  • Play and view 90 beautifully told Stories, created, adapted and told by Phil McDermott for: Reception, KS1 and KS2.
  • Uploading facilities: Teachers, school staff and children will be able to upload their own video, audio and written stories on to the site to share with others.
  • Users Library: Access to a library of video, audio and written stories contributed by children, teachers and school staff.
